Brindisi Announces Run For NYS Supreme Court

Former U.S. Congressman Anthony Brindisi announced on Monday that he was running to fill a vacant set in the New York State Supreme Court.  The seat became open when New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that he was signing a law adding new justices to the bench in larger judicial districts.  If successful, Brindisi will fill the seat in the 5th Judicial District.  This large district covers much of Onondaga, Lewis, Oswego, Oneida, Jefferson and Herkimner

Governor Cuomo signed the bill (S-7220) at the end of June.

Brindist defeated Claudia Tenney in a U.S. Congressional race in 2018.  In a re-election campaign last year he lost in a re-match with Tenney.  The race came down to just a handful of outstanding votes and was one of the closet election races in the country.  Ultimately, Brindisi lost to Tenney by a razor thin margin.

Later, when asked if he would again run for his old seat in the 22nd Congressional District against Tenney, Brindisi demurred stating that he wanted to stay close to his home area and his family.  If he wins the Supreme Court race he will remain based near his Upstate New York area.

At this point his only announced opponent is Danielle Fogel, a Republican lawyer in Onondaga County,

The election will be held Nov. 2.
