Carrie Underwood Talks Face Injury on ‘Today': ‘It Just Wasn’t Pretty’
In her first televised interview since her accident last November, Carrie Underwood opens up to Today host Hoda Kotb to revisit that fateful day and the months that followed.
"I didn’t know how things were going to end up," explains the singer, who broke her wrist and received more than 40 stitches around her mouth as a result of a fall on the steps outside of her Nashville-area home. "It just wasn’t pretty. I was (by myself). My son was asleep upstairs."
Nervous? Carrie Looked Amazing at the ACM Awards!
The injuries forced Underwood to take a bit of a break from the spotlight until last month, when she stepped upon the ACM Awards stage in Vegas to sing her new single "Cry Pretty," the first from her upcoming album of the same name.
"When you are singing something straight from your heart, its easy to just be in the moment and be connected to it," Underwood tells Kotb. "I never realized how much it translated until after the ACM Awards. There was something different about that performance."
Indeed, both the reaction from the crowd and her fans that night made Underwood admit that she still feels a tad uneasy within the spotlight. "When I’m singing a song, it’s like I’m in the music." she says. "I’m right there living it but as soon as the song ends, I think ‘oh man, I’m just Carrie. It’s like the magic ends somehow and I turn into a pumpkin in front of everyone. I’m not a center-of-attention kind of person."
