Chenango Forks Dynasty Continues With State Title Game Blowout
Forgive us if you've heard this before... but the Chenango Forks Blue Devils are New York State champions.
Just hours after Tioga didn't allow a single point en route to their second state title, Chenango Forks matched that feat in the 21-0 victory over Schuylerville. The win gives Forks its seventh state championship -- only one behind state record holder Aquinas for most titles in New York state history.
Forks went into halftime with a 7-0 lead after Zander Arnold ran the ball into the endzone with the first play of the second quarter. The score stayed that way until Fork's Dubbs Haqq trotted into the endzone for the first of his two scores for the day to make the score 14-0.
Haqq's second rush touchdown from seven yards out with just under four minutes left in the game extended the lead to 21-0. The score would stay that way as Forks clinched the championship on an 11-1 season.
Forks tend to win state titles in bunches. The team's first two titles came in 2003 and 2004. They then won three straight from 2013-2014. Chenango Forks won in 2019, and there was no state championship in 2020 due to COVID-19, so (technically) Forks are now sitting on two straight titles.
Southern Tier teams are now 2-0 during championship weekend games, with Chenango Forks and Tioga both coming away victorious. Maine-Endwell will seek to make it three for three when the play against the Pleasantville Panthers Saturday at noon.
