Brian was pretty relentless about me never having tried corned beef. Not only had I not had corned beef and cabbage, but I also had never had a Reuben sandwich. The corned beef wasn't something I looked at and thought, "I need to eat that." Also, the Reuben sandwich has three of four things on it that I absolutely dislike. Well, that all changed on St. Patrick's Day.

When I got home from work, Jenn had gone to Fred the Butcher and bought a Reuben sandwich and corned beef sliced thin. She enjoys the Reuben but I had not only never had it, I had never had plain corned beef. She asked me to give it a try. First off, let me explain what is on the Rueben. It is made with corned beef, sauerkraut, swiss cheese, thousand island dressing on warm rye bread. You should know that I dislike swiss cheese, sauerkraut, and rye bread. Plus I didn't know if I liked corned beef because I had never had it.

Chrissy tries Corned Beef

I sucked it up and gave it a big ole try. I opened my mouth up wide as if I was eating a sandwich that I love and bit in. I was pleasantly surprised. I didn't hate it but it wasn't the most delicious thing I have ever eaten. I found the corned beef to be very tender but extremely salty. The rye bread wasn't bad, but I could taste the rye ever so slightly. I really didn't even taste the swiss cheese but the sauerkraut didn't help make the sandwich taste good. All in all, I would give the Reuben sandwich a 4 out of 10. I also tried the thinly sliced corned beef sandwich meat and I didn't like that at all.

So there. I tried the corned beef and I have to say, I won't ever order a Rueben sandwich again. As far as having a plate of corned beef and cabbage, well, I think I would entertain that dinner idea. I guess you can say that I am not a fan of corned beef and if I never had it again, I wouldn't miss it.
