If you're a fan of rockabilly and psychobilly, you're in luck. Local purveyors of such sounds will be sliding into Oneonta tomorrow evening for a concert in Muller Plaza starting at 5:15pm.

Rockabilly is one of the first, primal examples of rock and roll. Dating back to the 1950s, the genre combines Western music stylings with rhythm and blues. It's twangy, raucous, and full of reverb. Early stars of rockabilly include Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, and Elvis Presley. While the genre faded by the late 1950s, a revival that continues today was seen in the late 1970s alongside the birth of punk rock.

Psychobilly melds elements of rockabilly and punk rock. Emerging from the New York punk underground in the late 1970s by bands such as the Cramps. Influence spread from the US to Europe, and saw the rise in the UK with the Meteors and Demented Are Go! In the 1990s, psychobilly saw more visibility in the US through releases by Tiger Army and the Reverend Horton Heat.

Oneonta's the Mopar Cams bring all of the energy of their precursors to their live shows. The band describes themselves as "a three-man wrecking machine that is hellbent on delivering only the finest in rockabilly and psychobilly!"

The Mopar Cams remind me of the psychobilly bands I used to go see live back in the day. The sound brings me back to acts like The Amazing Crowns and the aforementioned Reverend Horton Heat.
