With a heavy dose of Texas twang and a hard-driving melody, "Back on Solid Ground" is all about the sense of security and stability that you find when going back home, especially if you've been away for a while. "In that little house three miles out of town / There's a wall with my first day in school, my first time onstage / The book of my life on one page," Ward sings. "When I'm lost and I lose my way / This is where it all falls back in place."
As its lyrics might suggest, this song is seriously personal for Ward, who co-wrote "Back on Solid Ground" with Janelle Arthur and Kris Bergsnes. "We wrote this song about being homesick," he explains. "Its a song that is about going back to where you are from and to your roots. It means a lot to me."
"Back on Solid Ground" is the title track of Ward's forthcoming sophomore album, due out on July 26. Recorded in his home state of Texas, the 10-track effort is the follow-up to his 2015 album Love Don't Live Here.
A native of Corpus Christi, Texas, Ward has shared the stage with some of Texas country's most prominent artists, including upcoming shows with Bart Crow and Adam Hood. Fans can visit JakeWardMusic.com to learn more about those shows and Ward's new album.
