Americana singer-songwriter and purveyor of "cosmic Southern soul" King Corduroy is premiering his new song "Everyone Has to Love" exclusively for readers of The Boot. Press play below to listen to the bluesy, genre-melding tune.

The lyrics to "Everyone Has to Love" are inspired by a nugget of wisdom passed on by someone King Corduroy met in Mexico's Baja Peninsula, where he lived for a short time. After he met a traveler who claimed to have set foot on every continent, the artist asked the man where his favorite place in the world was.

"He told me that it's not where you go, it's what you do when you get there, and that really resonated with me," King Corduroy says. "Living in the moment is the essential ingredient for a satisfied mind, and I felt that his statement fully encapsulated that ideal."

After returning to the States, King Corduroy linked up with guitar player Kaleb Patterson, who played him the "groovy guitar riff" that would eventually form the sonic background for "Everyone Has to Love." The two sat down to write and finished up the dreamy, uplifting song together in short order, using that encounter in Mexico as a starting point.

"The lyrics wound up transcending just the concept of living in the moment. Our inherent nature is to offer love to another person and share a moment with someone who betters us," King Corduroy says. "This song is about the search for that one perfect someone. No matter what, everyone has to love someone, and that's what we need more of in the world today: universal love."

Born in Alabama and based in Nashville, King Corduroy weaves the pillars of Americana music — swampy New Orleans voodoo funk, Texas blues, Memphis soul — into his own self-described "cosmic" sound. In mid-August, he'll release a brand-new EP titled Avalon Ave., on which "Everyone Has to Love" appears. Recorded at the legendary FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals, Ala., the project was produced by Jason Isbell bassist Jimbo Hart, and features playing from Hart's 400 Unit bandmates Chad Gamble and Derry deBorja.

Avalon Ave. is set for release on Aug. 16. Learn more about King Corduroy on his official Facebook page.
