Luke Bryan’s ‘Crash My Party’ Named ACM Album of the Decade
An already special Tuesday night (Oct. 22) became even more memorable for Luke Bryan when he was surprised with the first-ever ACM Album of the Decade Award for his 2013 album Crash My Party. The award presentation, which readers can watch above, came during the 11th annual Opry Goes Pink event at the Grand Ole Opry House.
Bryan performed an acoustic set for Opry Goes Pink, an even that raises money for and awareness of breast cancer research. During the festivities, Academy of Country Music representative RAC Clark appeared to announce Bryan’s latest industry award.
“Crash My Party was such a life-changing album for us. We didn’t know it at the time; we were just loving making music for you guys," Bryan shared from stage. "It blew my mind the love and support we had from the fans. It’s so fun getting to do this."
Per a press release, the ACM Album of the Decade Award “recognizes an album that has impacted country music over the decade. The factors to be considered are, but are not limited to, the success at radio of singles released from album, album concept, commercial media, sales and streaming, artistic merit and ACM Award recognition.”
When it comes to commercial success, it's hard to top Crash My Party. The record has sold more than 4 million copies and spawned six straight No. 1 singles: “Crash My Party,” “That’s My Kind of Night,” Drink a Beer,” “Play It Again,” “Roller Coaster” and “I See You.”
Like the long-running ACM Dick Clark Artist of the Decade honor, which Jason Aldean received in April, the ACM's Album of the Decade Award was determined by more than 20 board members and the ACM Special Awards Committee. It's one of a few new Decade Awards instituted by the ACM this year; others include Song of the Decade, Breakout Artist of the Decade, Songwriter of the Decade and more.
