Oneonta NBT Bank Robber No Longer At Large: Police Arrest Suspect
Remember that back on December 29, 2021, the NBT Bank next to our Townsquare Media studios on Chestnut Street in Oneonta was robbed by a man in a face mask with his hair covered by a winter knit hat? After an investigation, Oneonta Police with the help of the New York State Police Forensic ID unit, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Investigations, and NBT bank security services caught up with the masked robber and it turns out he's from Oneonta.
Police have arrested 29-year-old Elijah Vergari who was arraigned in Otsego County Court yesterday by Judge Michael Getman. Vergari has been charged with Robbery in the third degree. Vergari was taken to the Otsego County jail with his bail set at $10,000 cash.
It turns out that Vergari also faces felony charges in Delaware County as well.
The press release from The Oneonta Police Department doesn't mention an accomplice in the case which Vergari was initially thought to have help from at the robbery - a getaway car driver. It's also not known how much the NBT Bank teller handed over to the suspect at the scene of the robbery or if those funds have been recovered.
Below are photos of the man who robbed the bank taken by NBT Bank security camera...
