We were all hoping we wouldn't be back here but we are. Otsego County is now at the "High Community Level" for COVID-19 confirmed cases according to the Otsego County Department of Health.

As of May 23, there were 66 new confirmed cases in the county with 2 people hospitalized with complications related to the virus. The current positive case rate on a 7-day average is 10.7%.

The COVID-19 Community Levels of low, medium, and high were developed by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as a tool to help communities and residents make decisions based on the COVID-19 level in their community and act accordingly, especially those people with underlying health conditions that make them more susceptible to dangerous complications that can arise from contracting the virus.

Now that we know the Otsego County COVID level is high, now what?

Consider masking in public places and social distancing to prevent the spread of the virus. The CDC, along with state and county health officials remain united on those prevention methods as being effective in hindering the spread of COVID-19. In addition, frequent hand-washing is another great tool to keep yourself COVID-19 free, not to mention the fact that washing hands helps to keep all kinds of bacterial and virus-based illnesses at bay.

If you are not up-to-date on your COVID-19 vaccination, consider getting vaccinated or your first or second booster shot if you haven't yet. While getting vaccinated does not prevent you from getting COVID-19, it can prevent you from getting a more serious version of the illness, preventing hospitalization from complications.
