President Obama Reacts to Senate Striking Down Gun Control Package [VIDEO]

The vote to expand gun background checks fell six votes short of passing in the United States Senate on Wednesday evening.

The bill was struck down 54 to 46. It needed 60 votes to pass.

The result prompted President Barack Obama to deliver a frank and passionate speech to the American public. In it, he called it a "shameful day." Obama also vowed to continue his efforts to pass gun reform.

"I see this as just Round One," he said.
