We talked about this on the show this morning--that 60% of men agree and 52% of women agree--that a hot dog is a SANDWICH. NO! I am not in that camp. A hot dog is NOT a sandwich! It's a HOT DOG. Just like a bunch of deli meat and cheese with some veggies in bread is a SUB----not a sandwich. To me-a "sandwich" is something between two flat pieces of bread:

THAT is a "sandwich". Just because a hot dog, most of the time, is eaten on a bun-does not make it a sandwich. According to dictionary.com:

"sand·wich
noun
an item of food consisting of two pieces of bread with meat, cheese, or other filling between them, eaten as a light meal. "a ham sandwich". "

Being from Chicago--I grew up with rules as to what you could and couldn't put on a hot dog--the number one no-no being ketchup. In fact--establishments in the city and suburbs don't even HAVE ketchup--whether it's bottles or packets-at all in their stores. So even if you wanted some for your fries-it's not even there. One of the most popular places has a gas station on the corner next to it-and they have a few shelves dedicated to bottles of ketchup so the kids can have it for their fries when they go there.

But yes--Hot Dogs are NOT sandwiches. I've never heard of such a thing. Sound off in the comments and tell us what YOU think. Sandwich or no?.
