Governor Cuomo's office announced this week that the Federal Emergency Management Agency has approved New York State's request for a major disaster declaration following the rains that battered the Southern Tier and Finger Lakes region in August.  Up to 9 inches of rain fell in some areas, causing major flooding and road damage.

It's estimated that the storms caused more than 36 million dollars in response costs and infrastructure damage.  The FEMA funds will provide disaster assistance to Broome, Chemung, Chenango, Delaware, Schuyler, Seneca and Tioga counties.

The Governor said that damaged areas will be re-evaluated by FEMA, all of the costs will be compiled and eventually there will be federal reimbursement through the public assistance program back to each municipality.
