George Strait Makes History With U.S. Bank Stadium Show
This is amazing but I can't say that I am that surprised! George Strait has made history with his show at U.S. Bank Stadium!
The show took place over the weekend, packing in thousands of fans into U.S. Bank Stadium Saturday (November 13th). It was even more special for said fans as the show was originally meant to take place over the summer of 2020 but was postponed a handful of times like every other show amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
It was also an extra special show because the country star officially retired from touring back in 2013! He does make a few exceptions here and there and this monster show in Minneapolis was one of those.
The show finally happened and with that, the man referred to as "the king" of country music made history proving he's still got it!
According to the Pioneer Press, George Strait now holds the record for having one of the largest number of attendees at his show at U.S. Bank! His show was the second-largest in attendance ever for the venue.
The Pioneer Press says 51,030 people attended the show Saturday night. The only person to ever beat this record was Garth Brooks, when he came to U.S. Bank back in 2019. It is worth noting that he played two shows and had a different stage setup, which meant he was able to sell more tickets than he would have if he had a normal stage setup.
U.S. Bank Stadium also shared the big news about George and the big attendance record. They called the show a "sell-out" and shared a picture from the back of the crowd looking at the stage. Incredible!
What makes this big accomplishment even cooler is that George did way less press for his big show at U.S. Bank than Garth a few years prior. He didn't really do any press or interviews regarding the show. That shows what big star power he still has after all these years!
The weekend of his two shows at the venue, Garth held a big press conference for media and answered questions about his music, his love for Minnesota and of course, his wife Trisha Yearwood.
I was even lucky enough to get to talk to him before the big show! You can watch that interview below:
You have to love that both attendance record holders are country stars! Yet another amazing part of the Saturday show was that a Minnesota native opened the entire thing. Caitlyn Smith is an up-and-comer in Nashville and she kicked off the entire thing.
Little Big Town and Chris Stapleton also played the show. I can't wait to see which country star takes to U.S. Bank Stadium next! In the meantime, you can keep up with all of the amazing shows coming to other venues in Minnesota with our concert calendar.
