The high school basketball season is almost over but there is plenty of basketball left in the Southern Tier. The Unified basketball program will be back in March and I plan on being a part of that too.

It's official! The Gus Macker 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament in Norwich will be back this summer. It's the 26th year for the tournament in Norwich and it'll run July 8th and 9th in the parking lot at the Norwich High School and Middle School.

Gus Macker

The Mack is hosted by the Norwich Family YMCA as an event to bring the community together and to help the Norwich YMCA at the same time. Participants of all ages can play and there are male and female teams.

The age groups are: Under 8, under 10, 11 to12, 13 to14,15 to16, 17 to18,19 to 25, 26 to 29, and 30 plus. Registration is now opened to get your 3-on-3 team together for some outdoor basketball fun.

There are three divisions: Junior Divisions (18 years of age and below), Adult Divisions (19 years of age and above), and Top Divisions (Most experienced level of play). If you've never participated or attended the Macker, then you are missing a fantastic and fun event.

They also need volunteers, scorekeepers and basketball officials for the event as well. If you're a new official, this is the PERFECT event to get your feet wet and get some experience in a relaxed and fun atmosphere.

You'll meet some fantastic people, make friends while having a great time. I'll be back for a second year and my only regret is that I didn't become a part of this sooner. It's as fun as it looks.

The MACK is back and I hope that I'll be seeing you on July 8th and 9th in Norwich...one way or another. Speaking of basketball, it's been 20 years since Syracuse won their only national championship title.

Here's what they are doing now.
