Looking for some summer fun with the family, check out what’s going on at the Kopernik Observatory and Science Center in Vestal.

The easing of the pandemic is giving families a chance to break out of the house and participate in some fun family time and the Kopernik Observatory and Science Center is hosting a treasure hunt game called geocatching on July 23.

The game which was started over 10 years ago involves using a hand held GPS device or your smart phone, and according to a news release from Kopernik there are hundreds of geocatches in the Southern Tier and even more throughout the world.

If you’re interested in finding out about geocatches  Kopernik is having a presentation this Friday night, July 23,  at the  Kopernik Observatory and Science Center on Underwood Road in Vestal given by Leann Lesperance and her husband, Kopernik Director, Drew Deskur.

The presentation will begin at 8:30 p.m., with doors opening at 8.

Local and state COVID-19 guidelines will be maintained, masks are required for those who are not vaccinated

If you are unable to attend, there will be a live stream of the presentation via the Kopernik YouTube Channel, with questions taken through the chat feature.
