New York State and Federal lawmakers are moving toward stricter regulations on stretch limousines in the wake of the horrifying crash in Schoharie County earlier this month that killed 20 people.  Limousines currently fall into what is referred to as a regulatory blind spot in that they are not manufactured by auto companies, but rather they are cars that in effect have been sliced in half and made longer by adding a middle section.

Legislation has been introduced that would require stretch limos to be taken off the road after 10 years, create new procedures should a vehicle fail safety inspections, impose a minimum liability coverage mandate of 2 million dollars, and display prominently inspection results on the State Department of Transportation website.
