On this day, June 6th, 69 years ago, 160,000 Allied Troops landed along a heavily fortified French coastline to fight Nazi Germany and the invasion of Normandy had begun.  By the end of the day, the Allies had gained a foot hold, but the cost was steep.  More than 9,000 Allied soldiers were killed or wounded, but the march across Europe to defeat Hitler was underway.
