This Saturday, May 12th will mark the end of a jewelry legacy as Skillin's  Jewelers will close their doors forever.  The store first opened in 1921 when John W. Skillin started Skillin's Jewelers on American Avenue in Norwich.  The store became a second generation business when John's son Harold purchased the building from his father in the 1950's.  Skillin's Jewelers continued to grow and soon it was time for a 3rd generation to take over the family business.

Following his graduation from Ithaca College, Hal became fully involved in the business and purchased it from his father in 1974.  Since then, Skillin's Jewelers, now located at 8 South Broad Street, has provided the community with great service and beautiful jewelry.  Hal said he has thoroughly enjoyed building long lasting relationships with all of his friends and customers, but he says it's time to retire.

Hal added that, while it's time to move on to the next chapter in his life, he does so with mixed emotions as one of the oldest businesses in Norwich will close after 97 years of serving the community.

Good luck Hal, thanks for the memories, and we'll see you on the golf course!
