Another Gus Macker 3 on 3 tournament has come and gone,  and the downtown streets are quiet again, save for the normal traffic.  Congratulations again to all involved in the organization, including Tom Revoir and everyone at the Norwich Family YMCA, including the "Gus Busters," or volunteers without whom the show would not go on.

I remember being at the Silo City Club 20 years ago when Tom and the rest of the "founders" got together for the first time to discuss the possibility of bringing the tournament to town.  Amazing how far it has come isn't it?

One thought, though.  I couldn't believe some of the negative comments I heard and read about the weekend. There weren't many, granted, but the big gripe from the Macker Scrooges was that East Main Street would be closed for three days. Never mind that thousands of people come to town and leave thousands of dollars in the registers of local businesses. Seriously, get a life.

I understand the current contract has expired and it's time to re-up, if you will.  Let's hope that things work out so we are assured of at least three more years of a great weekend.

All that said, even though the 18th annual Gus Macker Tournament is history, there is still plenty of summer left, and many more events to look forward to, including more Blues Fest summer concerts in the park, the Chenango County Fair, SummerJam, and of course, the Chenango Blues Fest in August.
