We were joined in the studio Friday by Tracy Henne, Catholic Charities Child Advocate, and she filled us in on some rather startling numbers concerning investigated cases of child abuse in Chenango County.  She told us that in 2013, there were 1,025 abuse cases investigated in the county, and so far this year, 41 cases have been reported. Tracy was here to talk about April as being Child Abuse Prevention Month, which is devoted to focusing on what we can do to help prevent and recognize potential abuse problems.

Coming up Saturday April 4th in conjunction with the Easter Egg hunt in East and West Parks in Norwich, the Child Advocacy Center will kick off a nationwide campaign called "Pinwheels For Prevention." She said pinwheels are a symbol of a happy, carefree childhood and the belief that every child deserves the opportunity to have that happy, carefree life.

For more information on other events planned for the month and on child abuse, call the Child Advocacy Center at 334-KIDS.
