We were joined in the Big Kat studios Thursday morning by Harpursville grad Shawn Hawkins and he told us about a new musical venture he is involved in.  Many local folks would remember Shawn from a couple of years ago when he was part of "Hailey and Shawn." Well, when it was time to head to college, like another local favorite Cassidy Lynn, Shawn chose Belmont University in Nashville. It was at Belmont that the band "Ben Whisler" was formed.

The band consists of 5 Belmont students who came together last fall to create a unique southern rock sound behind lead singer Ben Whisler.

During their short time together, they have already experienced some success, having managed to record 4 demos and a single that had a successful release last month. They were given the opportunity to debut the song on a Knoxville radio station as well as perform it live at a club in Knoxville.  It is a powerful song and it is impossible not to be impressed with Ben's powerful vocals as well as how tight the band sounds after just a few months together.

Included in the interview with Shawn below is the single "Where The Moon Shines" which they recorded for the most part in their dorm room. It sounds incredible.

They will be performing in the area later this summer and we will be sure to let everyone know when and where. Remember the band name..."Ben Whisler."  I think you will hear it many times in the future.  For further information on the up and coming band, head to their Facebook page.
